IC INFORMATION
Character Name: Jinx
Species: Enhanced "human"
Canon: Arcane
Canon Point: Season 2, Episode 6
Character Age: 19
CRAU: No
Character Appearance: Here
Powers and Abilities:
ENHANCED: Thanks to Shimmer-infused surgical enhancements, Jinx is faster and stronger than your average human, phasing in and out of existence when moving with intent. This isn’t quite magic, more like moving at the speed of light which makes tracking her with the naked eye more difficult. She can also easily lift twice her own weight and heals much faster than normal.

INVENTOR: Always tinkering with something, Jinx is extremely gifted in engineering. She can build just about anything with as few materials as possible, and that’s no exaggeration — she’s Tony Stark in a cave with scrap metal, and that’s without any of the education or funding support.

BRAWLER: While not as experienced as some, Jinx can undoubtedly hold her own in a fight. She uses her speed to her advantage, quickly and efficiently disabling targets in order to avoid dealing with them directly. She’d rather take someone down fast than get locked in a longer fight. She knows her weaknesses and will exploit whatever she needs to in order to win — and that includes fighting dirty.

SHARPSHOOTER: Needless to say, she’ll shoot first — and she won’t miss. Growing up in the Lanes under the tutelage of a veritable crime boss taught Jinx quite a bit about survival, and that includes always being faster on the trigger. Hesitation only ever gets people killed.

Character Questions:
1. Who is the person your character is most bonded with from their canon, or who is someone they miss the most and why?
Isha, no contest. It may surprise some people that Jinx has so fully and completely embraced her role as a mother figure, but she adores that little girl. Part of that is a desperation for family and stability, and part of it is a yearning to be needed by someone. Not exactly the healthiest of dynamics, but she’s ferociously protective over that kid and wants to do right by her — just like Silco did for her. Isha makes Jinx want to be a better person, and she worries about that kid constantly. Being trapped in another place isn’t going to lessen that instinct. In fact, it will only heighten it.

2. What are they most afraid of and why?
Losing everyone she loves. Maybe it’s silly because she’s so well-versed in watching her family get ripped away from her, but having to reinvent herself over and over is starting to wear on Jinx. She’s utterly exhausted from grief. Most days she feels like a haphazard puzzle of mismatched pieces, the strain of surviving starting to take its toll when her oldest wounds still haven’t healed. Does she even have any energy left to go through that level of emotional upheaval again? Jinx honestly doesn’t know. She fears finding out the answer to that question.

3. What are their emotional, mental, and physical weaknesses and why?
Ultimately, Jinx is her own greatest weakness. She struggles with pretty severe intrusive thoughts that undermine her at every turn, and that endless stream of negative commentary exacerbates her explosive moodiness. Jinx really can’t manage her emotions well, particularly when she’s already wound up. This can lead to some pretty poor decision-making, which then comes with consequences, triggering her insecurities and trapping Jinx in a cycle that repeats itself, over and over, a self-fulfilling prophecy without end. She has at least overcome a lot of her own physical limitations, using her smaller frame to her advantage in terms of speed and agility, identifying weaknesses in other opponents to exploit. Jinx also has lung damage from living in the Lanes and breathing in polluted air, so her stamina is weaker because of it. This is partly why she tries to end fights fast.

4. What discrepancies are there between their inner self (who they feel they are) and their outer self (how they present themselves to others)?
Jinx is constantly beating down the scared little girl inside her who just wants to be surrounded by the love of her family. She despises that kid, and changed her name because of it, mostly because she encompasses all her insecurities about being worthy of affection and praise. It deeply bothers Jinx that she can never truly exorcise that version of herself from her body — in fact, even now, she’s more like Powder than she will ever admit. So she postures, and overcompensates, and threatens, and shouts in the hope that no one will look closely enough to see the cracked reflection of a little girl peeking out from behind all the theatrics.

5. What would make them happiest and why?
Over time, and after many harsh lessons, Jinx has learned to lower her expectations when it comes to happiness. ‘Family that love me’ turned to ‘family staying together,’ which then deteriorated to simply ‘family that survives.’ These days, she tries not to let herself hope for more than that. Happiness, for Jinx, is really just contentment — and she hasn’t felt truly safe enough for that in a long, long time. She doesn’t think she’ll ever quite get there, but she’s been inching toward that with Isha, so maybe it’s possible. Jinx isn’t going to sit around hoping for it, far more focused on the here and now, but a tiny part of her at least wants the kid to know happiness. That’s more important than anything else right now.

6. What characteristics does someone need to have to be your character’s ideal significant other?
While Jinx would insist that no one can possibly measure up (courtesy of being raised by Silco), her requirements are pretty simple: fight really well and surprise her somehow. That’s it. She’s a product of her upbringing in Zaun, a harsh environment where the weak die quickly if they can’t defend or make themselves useful in some way, so a potential partner would only gain Jinx’s respect if they have a steel backbone. Competence is attractive to her, as is the dedication and resolve necessary to hone a skill over many years. She has no time or patience for the weak-willed. Surprising her, however, is far more nebulous. Jinx has always been a symbol of some kind: the loose canon daughter of a feared crime lord, the terrorist who kicked off a war with Piltover, the symbol of resistance against tyranny. If someone were to take the time to see the young woman behind all the masks — as in, possess a great deal of empathy, or at least an investigative mind — that would surprise Jinx.

7. Would your character make a sacrifice to save someone else and why or why not?
If you asked Jinx this, her answer would be very different from the truth. She would respond pretty flippantly, claiming that dying to save someone is “stupid and useless,” a mentality very much in-line with the survivalist culture in Zaun. But if actually faced with the choice of choosing herself or someone she cares about, Jinx would go the route of self-sacrifice every time. That isn’t to say she would do this for anyone — she isn’t exactly altruistic — but family? A child? Yeah, she’d cut her losses and throw herself into the fray. Somewhere, she knows Silco is disappointed. That’s fine. You made some questionable choices in your life too, old man.

8. What is one thing they would tell their younger self if they had the chance, or if your character is young, what is one thing they would want their older self to remember?
This will seem like a cop-out answer, but Jinx would really, really struggle with talking to her child self. She wouldn’t have much to say initially — probably something about hardening herself for the future and getting used to disappointment. But in the wake of looking after Isha, she may soften a little. Jinx wishes it were easier to say the things she needed to hear as a kid: that she deserves kindness, that she’s enough. It may come in the form of telling Powder that she’s tougher than she thinks, and her power will come from within — not from someone else. Not the most eloquent advice ever, but at least it isn’t something cruel.

9. When in dire circumstances does your character fight, flee, freeze or fawn and how does that look?
Fight. It’s Jinx’s first instinct to reach for her gun, though not to necessarily pull the trigger. Most conflict in Zaun is settled with shows of force — you always need to prove you’re willing to harm, not that you always do. Jinx has cultivated a reputation for being unpredictable, and that holds a lot of weight in the Lanes. Keeping people on their toes is just as much a defensive tactic as anything else, and she uses her quick thinking in the middle of a crisis to sow chaos. It’s kept her alive this long, though it’s certainly meant collateral damage for a whole lot of other people. Oops?

10. Why did your character make the wish they did?
Having just reunited with Vi and Vander, and with Isha in tow, Jinx is starting to see the merit in bunkering down and staying in Viktor’s commune. There’s safety in numbers, and while she doesn’t think this utopia will last, it’s the closest thing she’s gotten to a shelter in a long time. Jinx thinks Vi might be on to something when she suggested they stick around. Maybe, for a little while, they could actually get some time together that isn’t fraught in conflict and chaos. Is she hopeful? Not really. But she’s willing to give this a shot if for no other reason than wanting some time with her family — limited as that will inevitably be.
